Broccoli Dal

Broccoli Dal
Ingredients
- Toor dal (pigeon pea) – 1/2 cup
- Onion – 1, finely chopped.
- Tomato – 1 large – chopped.
- water – 3 cups
- Broccoli – 1 head – soak the florets in warm salt water for 10 minutes, drain the water and chop finely.
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp.
- Curry powder – 2 tsp.
- Salt – to taste
- Cilantro – handful, finely chopped.
- Oil – 1 tsp.
Temper
- Curry leaf – 1 sprig – finely chopped.
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp.
- Oil – 1 tsp.
Method
- Add toor dal, onion, tomato, broccoli, turmeric , oil & water in a pressure cooker and cook on medium heat for 3 whistles. (I am using a Prestige pressure cooker – Indian brand) .If using another brand make sure to have it on a setting that cooks the lentils. It should not take more than 20 minute to cook.
- When the content in the pressure cooker cools puree the content.
- Pour the pureed broccoli dal mixture into a pan.
- Add curry powder & salt and bring to boil over low heat.
- In a small pan add oil, heat to medium.
- Add mustard seeds when it crackles add curry leaves cook for a minute. Pour this over the broccoli dal .
Back to The Cascading KitchenGarnish the broccoli dal with cilantro and serve with rice or roti. Serves 6
